Three suspects were in custody after a shootout between police and robbers at a Brooklyn day care center Friday.
The attempted robbery and shooting took place at the Special Moments Daycare on East 52nd Street in East Flatbush around 1 p.m., according to sources.
Responding to a 911 call, police said they shot one suspect who pointed a gun at them.
Police were then able to get all 12 children, who were napping, and the center's three staffers out of the building safely and apprehended the other two suspects.
Residents who live by the day care were shocked that this happened in their normally quiet neighborhood.
"It's terrible. I've never seen anything like this before. That's my house across the street. And I've never seen anything like this before. I can't believe it," said one local.
"Been here for 30 years, this is the first time we've had anything like this. Very quiet, very quiet," said another.
The suspect who was shot was in stable condition at Kings County Hospital on Friday night.
