Brooklyn residents who live next door to this weekend's collapse site watched as their building was dismantled Tuesday.

The Department of Buildings says 491 Myrtle Avenue in Clinton Hill is not structurally sound.

Crews began the demolition by tearing down the top floor.

The building is occupied by one family. Some of their belongings are being salvaged, but many others were tossed to the ground.

"It's hitting me hard because all my memories are in there," said resident Jose Diaz. "But I'm going to try to get the best things I can out of there. Not big stuff, the little things."

The residents of 497 and 489 Myrtle Avenue are also out of their homes while officials inspect their buildings.

The DOB says its looking into whether construction or the rainy weather caused 493 Myrtle Avenue to buckle and collapse Sunday afternoon.

Officials are also looking into whether owner William Sang properly maintained the more than 100-year-old building.

The city issued a violation to Sang last month for not maintaining an exterior wall that investigators say had cracks. But an engineer determined it was safe for residents to stay in the building while repairs were done.

Meanwhile in Bedford-Stuyvesant, another building will be knocked down to prevent a possible collapse.

Inspectors from the Department of Buildings labeled the structure on 103 Patchen Avenue as "unstable."

They say it was severely damaged during a fire back in April.

The fire department says no one lives in the building, but neighboring homes will have to be evacuated during the demolition.

The Office of Emergency Management says about 12 people will be displaced.
