PETA members protested Thursday ahead of the opening performance of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus in Coney Island.

Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus is debuting the Coney Island Boom-A-Ring show.

The Animal Open House began earlier in the afternoon, followed by the full show under the big top.

"An hour before the show, we open the doors to the tent and you come on down and meet the performers, and get autographs with them," said Jason Gibson, the show's production manager. "We have a wardrobe rack and you can try on costumes from previous editions of Ringling Brothers Circus. You can learn how to juggle. We have hula-hopping and jump roping, a practice trapeze. Plus there's an actual ring you won't see during the show itself. That's all before the show even begins."

Dozens of protesters from PETA rallied against the circus' arrival and its alleged cruel policy to animals.

The tent seats 2,400 people and is located at Surf Avenue and West 21st Street. The show is scheduled to run until September 7.
