Despite the ongoing State Senate mess, the State Assembly Wednesday passed its bill on the issue of mayoral control of the city's schools 121-to-18.

Under the measure, the mayor would still appoint eight of the 13 members of the Board of Education.

Two of the appointees would also have to be public school parents.

The five other members will be chosen by each of the borough presidents.

The bill also keeps the schools chancellor as a nonvoting board member and strengthens procurement oversight.

The current law expires at the end of the month.
