City Unveils First Section Of High Line Park

The city on Monday unveiled the first phase of the long-awaited High Line project.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg was joined by other city officials at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the first section of the park, which runs along the southern-most part of the abandoned elevated rail line.
The initial section of the park runs a half mile from Gansevoort to 18th Street and cost about $86 million to complete.
It will officially open to the public Tuesday.
The High Line's second section, which will run up to 30th Street, is expected to open next year. Planning will then focus on completing the third section up by the West Side rail yards, between 30th and 34th streets.
