With time running out on Governor David Paterson's same-sex marriage bill, several state senators, including State Senator Joseph Addabbo, had yet to make their positions known Friday. NY1's Roger Clark spoke with Addabbo's constituents and filed the following report.

Constituents wanted to hear what freshman State Senator Joseph Addabbo has to say about gay marriage.

"He needs to make a decision, quick," said one Queens resident. "A lot of people are interested in knowing."

Senators On Same-Sex Marriage

See how your state senator responded to an exclusive NY1 poll on same-sex marriage.

But on Friday they did not know, as Addabbo would not respond to the question of how he would vote on legalizing same-sex marriage in the state.

"It's very important," said a constituent. "He needs to say if he is for or against it."

"I really think he should have a position on that; he definitely should have something to say because he's a senator," said another.

"I think he should have a response one way or the other," agreed a third.

They were hard to find, but there were a few Queens residents who told NY1 that they were willing to give Addabbo a break for not publicizing his opinion.

"I mean maybe he is not sure what his position is, so he'd rather not say," said a Queens resident.

But the majority said they were not willing to let him off the hook.

"This is a big, big topic," said a local.

"I think if he's an elected official, he should have a position," agreed another. "He should let the people know who he represents what his position is."

Addabbo declined to comment on the story.
