These gun owners should not be taking the heat for these crimes. But, I also agree with our viewer Jimmy from the Bronx, and a caller named Bill from Sayetteville, North Carolina, who say responsible gun owners won't mind changes, even if that means stricter laws. Taxing guns, holding yearly safety check-ups, and limiting the amount of ammo a person can purchases are all things the law-abiding gun owner should understand, and welcome, knowing the state of gun violence in this country as of late.

Vice President Joe Biden met with leaders of the National Rifle Association today as part of an effort to establish recommendations to combat gun violence. They discussed tightening background checks and banning high-capacity ammunition magazines, but the NRA said it was "disappointed" with the White House's "agenda to attack the Second Amendment."

In a statement, the NRA added, "We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen." After speaking with executives from the video game and entertainment industries, Vice President Biden is expected to deliver recommendations to President Obama by Tuesday.

The meetings in Washington come the same day police say a father and his two-year-old son were grazed by bullets during a shooting in Bedford-Stuyvesant. And at a high school in California, a student allegedly shot a classmate.

My recommendation to end gun violence is to arm everyone. As has been proven in the book, More Guns, Less Crime, wherever guns are allowed to be carried, gun crime goes way down. Disarming innocent people will not stop the mentally deranged.

Of course it's a sin about this two year old boy. But they can not and they will not attack our second amendment rights. All of the legal gun owners are being blamed for all of this violence that continued until today in California. What did Mayor V. have to say about it. He's another mayor just like we have here in New York. Both are never where they are suppose to be.

Both are in someone else's business and the two states of having already gone to hell.
This Holder making remarks about us being ashamed of having guns just like we should be about the smoking.

I would ask the President to get rid of assault weapons, which are designed for military use and should not be in the hands of civilians, banning or controlling these types of weapons would go a long way to stopping the horrific mass killings that are destroying American society.

Who else to blame than the gun owners then? It is crazy that is taking longer to adopt a dog than to get gun permit.

My suggestion for President Obama is to invite the kids from the school after being traumatized with the gun shoots and set them to request to NRA and the congress to see how they are really suffering to recoup from that trauma.

To hear from the real victims, hopefully that way they can see that is real painful for others than the gun owners.

The other day a 90 year old woman was shot and yesterday a two year old boy and his father were shot in Brooklyn.. Well enough is enough. There are those in state government and in Congress who are calling for stricter gun regulations but we have a governor who walks the talk. Remember this too: Evil thrives when good people do nothing. So lets all get behind our governor or more children and our elderly will be shot and killed for no reason. Let me also say, KUDOS Governor Cuomo for standing up and doing the right thing.

Before we look to new gun control, how about looking to enforce the laws/requirements already in place and how we can better enforce them. Any new measure will need to be enforced, and if we lack the resources and person power to enforce what we have in place now, how then will new initiatives ever be effective.

The truth is that there are already too many guns in this country to ban them all together. All that would do is give criminals the advantage. I believe in the rights to bear arms, however I don't believe anyone outside of the military or SWAT should have access to assault rifles. There is no reason for a law abiding person to need 30 round clips. I believe that not only should there be background checks, but also psyciatric evaluations to own any gun. I also believe gun permits should be like drivers licence, the should have to be renewed every so many years. In the renewal process there should also be an psychiatric evaluation.

Guns are just too easy to get. We need stricter laws for background checks, waiting periods, licenses, limits on number of bullets and types of guns sold. If you're not in the military or law enforcement you have absolutely no need for an Uzi.

The NRA's claim that law abiding gun owners are being punished for criminal's actions is ludicrous. Law abiding citizens need not fear stricter gun control laws if in fact they are law abiding. So they would have to wait a few days or pay for a license and a background check to get their shot guns, that is a small price to pay for potentially saving innocent lives. Stricter gun laws don't violate the 2nd amendment they compliment it and allow us to administer our rights in a safe way.

The way I see it. It boils down to responsibility. When there is a shooting, we can't instantly blame video games, music, movies, etc. They have the same type of entertainment worldwide, but not as many shootings. We as a society must own up when things go wrong.

Who needs 1.75L bottles of alcohol? Most people need few ounces to be over the limit. So why don't we limit those?

Who need a 1000hp car? Who needs that amount of power, speed?

We can all scream and shout from the highest mountain until we are blue in the face about this horrible epidemic of "gun violence" that is causing so much pain and grief, but it will not end until "common sense" legislation is federally mandated to do the following:

1) Develop a national data base AND task force to track the manufacturing and distribution of all weapons and ammunition in this country AND make it available to all law enforcement entities;

2) Mandate a thorough medical background check on anyone wishing to purchase a firearm or ammunition, and a copy must be made of the applicants photo identification;

3) Stop wasting taxpayers money on this issue when every "elected" and "selected" official in this country know that unless "federal legislation" is mandated to stop this madness - it will continue!

its like owning a Car, a right to have a gun is a responsibility and NOT a right.. the laws stating "right to bear arms" were made at a time when a gun was as normal as a state id.. I say Ban the guns and if a gun is used in a crime the last known owner should be responsible.. this will teach ALL owners to carefully monitor and properly dispose or sell their guns.

The key to keeping guns out of the hands of people not competent to use them
properly is not just better screening, but annual re-certifications, compulsory ongoing
training in how, when, and when not to use a gun, compulsory insurance to indemnify
innocent victims, and ongoing scrutiny of a gun owner's mental health, obedience to
the law, use of chemicals, both legal and illegal, and abstinence from violent behavior
including family offenses. If someone really wants to own a firearm, making them jump
through hoops to buy and keep one will ensure greater respect for these weapons and
will limit the unnecessary proliferation of guns in our violent society.

I think the following are excellent suggestions:

Psychological examination for owners.

Gun should be locked up.

Cops should to random check to ensure gun owners keep guns locked up and kept away from children.

Only military officials should be allowed to get guns that use multiple bullets.

Bullet sellers should alert the police before selling bullets in large amounts to private gun owner.

It's so sad what is happening today in the world not just America.

Regarding gun laws: Each and every weapon should be registered and accounted for every 1-2 years. If not, the owner/manufacturer should be fined.

Just like a person must renew their license to drive a car, each and every gun should be approved to be kept ONLY if the owner passes a test every 1-2 years on its maintenance, safety - key locked, etc.

Also, there should be a law against training anyone UNDER the legal age on how to shoot a gun! Recently watched a segment on a father training his 4 year old how to shoot a gun. I think at that age the child is "glorifying" the use of guns, etc.
