It's sure been a busy year in the newsroom. The usually slow summer months were plagued by gun violence. Death and destruction filled the latter part of the year, with Hurricane Sandy wreaking havoc on the East Coast in late October. And then, about a week before Christmas, tragedy struck Newtown, Connecticut.

Of all of the stories we've covered this year, the one that affected me the most was Hurricane Sandy. Working around the clock in the newsroom during the height of the Superstorm, and covering its aftermath for much of the month of November really struck a chord on both a professional and personal level. I've never seen the New York City skyline go black, nor have I seen some of the busiest areas of Manhattan turn into ghost towns. Sandy certainly left her imprint on New Yorkers, and the rebuilding continues.

Tonight, I wish for a year filled with more triumph than tragedy, more smiles than tears, and more brave stories from fearless New Yorkers across the five boroughs. It's been an honor hearing your opinions and keeping you informed. See you in 2013!

Tonight will mark our final show of 2012, and what a memorable year it's been. We talked for hours about everything from Hurricane Sandy, to the massacre in Newtown, to the re-election of President Obama, to the ban on large sugary drinks. We expanded to a full hour in January, and you kept our phone lines ringing all year.

What was the biggest news story in 2012? What event was the most memorable for you? Who was the biggest winner and loser of the year? What is your wish for New York City in 2013?

The biggest news stories had to be Hurricane Sandy which wreaked such devastation and whose effects will be felt by many for years to come. Some people will never regain what they once possessed.

Right on the heels of that is the Newtown massacre which shook our nation’s faith in humanity and again the devastation of those families and loved ones will be felt for years, perhaps forever. Basically nothing can help a parent’s pain and grief.

It’s a long year and we often forget those “stories” at the beginning of the year by the time the end comes. The sudden passing of Whitney Houston was a shock to many of her fans, and in some ways aged us all.

Finally the historic re-election of President Obama gave us faith that those regular people amongst us had a strong voice and vote. In that regard the biggest winner was the President, Democrat party and all those supporters, while Mitt Romney and the Republicans have to go back to the drawing board and figure out why they are so disdained by the most populated states.

My wish for New York City? Commonsense solutions to make our citizenry safer and more economical to live. Stricter gun controls and crackdowns. More economic justice so that we can finally break this cycle of unemployment. Too few have too much and too many not enough, an equation destined for ruination. And I pray that subway pushings will not become the new norm.

It's very difficult to choose one very important story simply because there were so many if not all topics you have brought to us every evening your show was on.
The disappointment was all the politicians in New York State and all of Washington in general. Sorry to say we have been used and abused by all.

Once again I have to commend you John and your staff for working so hard to keep us so well informed.

The past year has revealed how deeply divided we are as a nation. On many levels from gun control to economics. And civil discourse seems to be eroding, this last election, was one of the worst.

I am surprised by the resistance to hurricane Sandy relief, it is a shock to me that those who are vulnerable to hurricanes or tornadoes want to deny aid to their fellow citizens. Why, because it is the East Coast? They don't like the way we voted? Come on, let's get together.

Like....the NRA is way off base about staffing armed guards at schools.

We need to get the gun lobbyists to focus on containment and elimination rather than on defense.

But as usual it is an uphill battle to convince gun lobbyists. Maybe if their children has been killed.

My wish for the new year is that all Bloombergian and City Council regulations be repealed and that taxes be cut by 25% every year until they are at zero. And that every mode of transportation be sold off to the highest bidder, getting government entirely out of it. And changing all schools to charter.

Mike Bloomberg hasn't been in Breezy Point or Rockaway since Sandy hit. Two months and one appearance in a place that has been completely destroyed. I bet you he has done at least 20 rounds of golf in Bermuda since the storm. He will not be invited to this years St.Patricks day parade!!!!

The Con Ed contract fight in the summer, obviously Sandy and Newtown were big storIes but Obama getting re-elected was the biggest story.

The infrastructure, gun control and the economy need to be fixed soon. Cuomo will be watching utilIties and hopefully Obama repairs the gun and money problems. Money for Sandy must be there. The MTA needs to clean up it's act.

I agree with Dave from Jamaica totally. I would like to add that in the coming year I would like to see elected officials from all levels of government become more mature and focus on solving our problems by working toward consensus. I think a higher minimum wage would be a great start.

In the sphere of Corporate America, I would like to see a trend toward helping and not scheming the customer. For example in the Banking Industry there was the highest amount of penalties paid ever by the industry in the Year 2012. I would like to see some of the corporations in any industry actually admit that they were wrong instead of paying the significant fines and using public relations commentary of no admittance of wrongdoing. Another example is the airline industry, I feel they should stop hiding fare increases in baggage fees. For the healthcare institutions, would it be possible to be less of an industry and more of a caring place.
