During tonight's program we asked: Who showed better leadership in handling Hurricane Sandy -- Mayor Bloomberg or Governor Cuomo? Our last caller of the night had an interesting response to this question. He said you can't really judge who showed better leadership because each lawmaker responded based on his background and position. In that case, he said the Governor handled the storm like a prosecutor, while the Mayor handled it as a manager would. While that may be true, I do have to say I think Governor Cuomo takes the cake on this one. He was a true leader before, during and after Sandy struck and he should be commended for his hard work.

Five weeks after Hurricane Sandy swept the East Coast, the majority of New York City residents say the City was not properly prepared to battle the storm. This comes from an exclusive NY1-Marist College poll of 814 New York City adults, which also found despite this view, most New Yorkers are positive about officials’ response to the superstorm. Not surprisingly, the survey found residents who were most affected by Sandy are more likely to say the City was ill-prepared.

On top of that, the poll shows a majority of New Yorkers believe Hurricane Sandy mostly united people in the City, with optimism reaching its highest level in six years. Mayor Bloomberg’s approval also spiked, with half of those surveyed saying the Mayor is doing either an excellent or good job in office. What do you say?

New York Times reported that the city decided not to evacuate residents of nursing homes and adult homes in Zone A leading to dangerous and frightening situations for these individuals and their families. Some seniors were trapped in cold, dark nursing homes for days. Some families couldn't locate their loved ones. Who knew which medicine to give them? The city must do better than this.

THE MEETING AT NEW DORP HIGH SHOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER ORGANIZED.

PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ASKED TO ATTEND ACCORDING TO THE MONTHS OF THERE BIRTHDAY. JAN, FEB, MAR, APRIL ONE NIGHT AND SO ON UNTIL ALL COULD BE ADDRESSED CIVILLY.

I WILL NOT EXPERIENCE THE WASHINGTON AT VALLEY FORGE AGAIN, I WILL LEAVE MY HOME INSTEAD OF WAITING IT OUT.

They can toot their own horn as much as they want. Where is all the money
we all contributed? I never believe their polls in anything. Again one more time we all have given and helped many people financially time and time again and I have seen a few on camera this week alone and no mention of the devastation.

Once again they blame the people for complaining because they have more devastation than others. A few examples are many people that come from this area where the storm hit and made their money and status in New York and I ask where are they.

They all are pretty vocal with and on their jobs and do stories in other countries other states you all get the picture.

WHERE ARE THE POLITICIANS? THEY SHOULD BE THERE MAKING THEIR PRESENCE KNOWN BUT THEY ALL KNOW HOW TO APPEAR AND DISAPPEAR.

THIS SANDY SHOULD NOT BE USED AS ANYONE'S LEGACY. WHERE'S BILL AND HILLARY.

People are still freezing every night and some are also still hungry.

The politicians SHOULD NOT TAKE CREDIT for people and I mean people helping one another in such great need and refer to it as people coming together.

SO MUCH OF THE KINDNESS WAS DONE OUT OF POCKET MONEY TO HELP THESE POOR PEOPLE IN THEIR TIME OF NEED=EVERYONE SHOULD REMEMBER THAT WE ALL CAME VERY CLOSE TO BEING IN THEIR PREDICAMENT AND I CAN'T USE THE PHRASE IN THEIR SHOES BECAUSE MANY HAD NONE ON THEIR FEET.

Where is all this money for repairs coming from for all of the sudden repairs ? What i suspect is that they are already spending before they even get any money from Washington.

Again I ask what happened to all the tax money we give?

considering the call for evacuation for 2 days prior to the storm, I'd say they were prepared. Unfortunately, many didn't listen claiming they left for Hurricane Irene and it wasn't necessary. I believe that the City was prepared but I also believe that no one would have been able to predict the magnitude of the devastation that took place. After the storm, I believe the City acted quickly however I believe that FEMA and others were late to arrive on Staten Island. That took a couple of days. Staten Islanders were mostly left to helping one another and by the kindness of strangers.

New York City ILL-PREPARED, surely you jest! This entire Country Should have learned a lesson from Katrina, NYC especially. Barriers should have been built long ago to prevent such flooding along the coast. Not EVERYONE can move inland. AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION IS WORTH A POUND OF CURE. But then again IGNORANCE IS BLISS. I like nature just as much as most but large trees should remain in forests &/or parks where, if they fall, they won't cause property damage or intertwine with electrical wiring.

As for officials they've been doing their jobs but mostly it's been neighbor helping neighbor.

The Dept of Corrections had correction officers absent during the storm. 26 percent of officers did not show up for work and the other correction officers had to work three and four shifts to cover for those not responding to their responsibilities. Officers and inmates were put at risk due to poor response of Correction Officers Benevolent Association members. No evacuation plan exists in case of severe storm conditions. The commissioner removed clothing and blankets budgeted for the use of inmates to go off rikers for public relations work. DOC is not FEMA. The DOC is not the Red Cross. The DOC tortures inmates with solitary confinement and instead of mentally ill inmates getting treatment they get sent for 23 out of 24 hours a day in solitary confinement t which makes their mental condition worse.

I think we did pretty good considering we had very little experience dealing with hurricanes, hopefully, next time we will be better prepared and get out when told to get out !!!!

While I think that the city and state officials did a very good job overall in the preparations and aftermath of the storm, one thing that was missing in the preparations was that the Mayor and other officials did not really make the people of the city understand what a “storm surge” is. I think a lot of people that lost their lives may not have stayed in their homes if they understood that there would be a surge of water that could travel at a high rate of speed for miles and that would rise quickly. Considering that we are not used to hurricanes, there should have been a discussion of what a storm surge could do.

Schools will be opened on Monday but on Sunday Rockaway residents should evacuate

The boardwalk on beach 104-105 Street was never fixed a year after Hurricane Irene. This was the weak link that allowed the water to take the whole boardwalk.

The sand was never replenished after Irene - a year ago we couldn't afford it. Well now we know we cannot afford the devastation now.

Now the Mayor tells Rockaway residents we will not have a boardwalk we will have cement

My response to this question is he did a lousy job. I truly believe they new the severity of the storm that was going to hit the coastline and didn't prepare all the families that were going to be hit. I live in Gerritsen Beach and they NEVER told us to evacuate and kept saying we were B ZONE. Funny, my home owners policy states Gerritsen is A ZONE!.. We left 5 minutes before the wall of water engulfed our area. We had 6 feet of water surrounding our home, lost one car, basement doors and windows were blown out and basement was totally flooded as well as 3 feet of water on my first floor. Lost everything!! We didn't get any help in our area by any officials for 3 days! What a damn shame. I am still numb from this whole incident. Won't be living in my house for many, many months. Still waiting to hear from insurance, fema etc. to get help. Still in Shock in Gerritsen Beach!

I think that Mayor Bloomberg did a good job OVERALL. People have to realize that N.Y is a dense city and not all people are going to be saved 100%. There will be a few people here and there that will effected.
