We don't know Wade Page's motive. We've only learned a glimpse of his past. But if it turns out Page killed six Sikhs because of 9/11, we can reach a conclusion on his IQ. People who claim to care about the September 11 attacks should at least make a point to educate themselves about it.
The NYPD has increased patrols in New York City's Sikh community as a precaution, after an Army veteran opened fire yesterday inside a Sikh temple near Milwaukee. Six worshippers were killed when 40-year-old Wade Michael Page opened fire with a legally purchased handgun. Page was later killed by an officer responding to the scene.
Today, Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly stood with leaders in the Sikh community to condemn the shooting. Bloomberg said, "We have no tolerance for intolerance or for lawless violence." A motive is unknown, but members of the Sikh community have mistakenly faced countless hate crimes and threats since the 2001 terror attacks.
Yesterday's shooting came the same day the group "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" released an ad calling on the presidential candidates to release a plan to combat gun violence. The ad features survivors from the Tucson shooting that injured former Congresswoman Gaby Giffords.
What's your reaction to yesterday's mass shooting at a temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin? If you are a member of New York's Sikh community, do you continue to receive threats ten years after 9/11? Are Washington politicians doing enough to combat gun violence?

Its truly sad to see our mayor on such a futile crusade. Its been proven time and time again that gun laws only take guns away from decent, law abiding citizens. Criminals never have any trouble getting their hands on weapons. Given the political climate today, there is no way in the world guns will be banned. History is full of examples of what happens when citizens are disarmed. Do we need another lesson?

Why are all these politicians calling for gun reform on the backs of this latest shooting when the assailant had his gun legally? A former member of the Army who never hid his views on White Supremacy and belief there would be a race according to people who knew him in the Army is fit to have a gun in this country apparently, so what exactly are they reforming? Are they going to blame his absent parents, or his growing up in a high crime neighborhood, is he going to be called an ignorant animal by the public too? Maybe law enforcement in this country need to broaden their definition of who fits a pattern for certain crimes and stop and search them too, since it seems like it's always white males who commit mass murders of this type.

I understand that the world has changed and that people are supposed to be vigilant 24/7, but, the shooting of unsuspecting worshippers has proven that "somebody has definitely moved the cheese!" It made me realize that while I pray on a kneeler at St. Patrick's Cathedral I can no longer totally immerse myself in the spirit of the moment of worship because some demented person may decide to prey on me and others worshipping as the First Amendment of the Constitution says that we have the right to do. Armed guards may have to replace those collecting the money at mass. What a shame! I guess it gives new meaning to the words of our parents and the Bible "Make Sure that Your House in Order "" at all times. II Kings: 1-7

THERE ARE IN FACT IGNORANT PEOPLE THAT WALK THIS EARTH. THEY USE INSULTS AT WILL,THEY INDICT COMMUNITIES WITH BULLETS INSTEAD OF WORDS, POLICE GET SHOT AND IT ALL STEMS WITH ONE WORD. INDIFFERENCE. CHURCHES GET DESTROYED WITH FIRE. PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS GET MADE FUN OF AND ARE MOCKED. INDIFFERENCE BE DAMNED.

John,
Nobody yet knows who Wade Michael Page or what his motivations are yet. But the mere fact of the shooting results in the anti-gun fanatics to crawl out of the swamp and immediately characterize him as a skin-head, a right winger, a domestic terrorist, a Tea Party member, etc. That just goes to show how many people suffer from small brains, the absence of logic and ignorance of facts.
He may be all these things said. But they were said before there was even the beginning of an investigation. If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. Does anyone really think gun regulations stop the flow of guns to criminals? Yeah, just like prohibition stopped the distilling of liquor.

Hi John,
The reality is that nothing can be done in Washington without compromise which the Republicans/Tea-Party refuse to do. The gun lobbyist, NRA, Alec, Citizens United etc... are buying the influence of elected officials in DC. As in the Tuscon massacre, we mourn the loss of the Wisconsin victims and must stand together to ban gun sells period. Were not the guns in the last two mass shooting legal?

Hi John,
What business is it of this Mayor's that he keeps insisting by harping on Romney and Obama. Where has he been all of these years. We all deserve protection from authorities because we have people who break the laws of this country every day of the year. We have had more than our share of killings of every kind in the outer boroughs and now this is only recently that this Mayor chooses to make a big deal about it. Just who is paying for this ad that is suppose to be out today.
I ALSO ASK WHERE ARE OUR POLITICIANS THAT SHOULD BE TAKING CARE OF OUR EVERY DAY NEEDS IN THIS CITY IN ORDER TO SURVIVE INCLUDING THIS MAY0R WHO INSISTS ON GETTING ON EVERY BANDWAGON TO BOOST HIS OWN LEGACY WHICH IN MY OPINION, HE HAS NONE AND NEVER WILL. THIS GABBY AND HER HUSBAND MILKED THAT BOOK TO THE LIMITS AND THE AREA HAD NO REPRESENTATION WHICH INFURIATED HER CONSTITUENTS.
Thank you John,

I am appalled and greatly sadden over the latest shooting and massacre of innocent Sikh's in Wisconsin. And in the house of worship. Is no place sacred? My heartfelt prayers go out to the peaceful Sikh people and their families that have lost so . As a nation we can never be truely free if we continue hating those of different cultures. We are all brothers and sisters of the human race and were created by God to love one another. Remember this too: hate is created in the home and parents ought to teach their children to respect all people. For love is the answer.

The catalog of a public-traded sporting goods company I recently received in the mail contains 5 pages of ammunition for sale that the company will deliver to anyone's home, via UPS, no questions asked. One of the brands of ammunition for sale boasts that its "engineers achieved 100% reliable expansion [of the bullet] when shooting through even the toughest clothing barriers."
The second amendment begins with the phrase "a well regulated militia..." These senseless tragedies in Tucson, Aurora, Oak Creek will continue unabated as long as guns and ammunition are readily available, easily obtained, and completely unregulated.

The shooting is a tragedy. The issue is beyond gun violence, we have another layer to address. Many veterans are in need of proper discharge planning and mental health services upon their return to the states. These veterans have been living a life of violence, weapons, and extreme conditions. Many of these veterans need to relearn how to live in society and have their PTSD addressed.

I can't believe that our leaders are taking this so lightly. Hate is all over . Movies, churches, street and conventions. We are growing with hate . Hate is in our living room @ HOME

All these shootings only highlight the failures of the police who should focus on preventing lunatics from getting weapons.

Though I support legal responsible gun ownership via the 2nd amendment the Oak Creek tragedy was commited by a mentally unstable person with a 9mm handgun and not a automatic rifle. Meaning that the psychological profiling of potential gun owners is very sub par or we have some pretty slick gun runners with politicians in their backpockets.

I wish Bloomberg would focus a little more on the shootings in his own backyard, which are numerous, instead of jumping on his soapbox every time there is a press opportunity.

loomberg constantly talks about gun control, not just to get press. The man owns one of the largest press agencies, he has no trouble getting press. He started an organization of mayors to support gun control & funded it with his own money. He's the most vociferous & aggresive mayor Or politician on the subject.
Great Britain had 42 gun related deaths in 2008, this includes suicides & accidents compared to 30,000 plus in the US (9,000 homicides). Even if you multiply GB's # by 5 since our pop is 5X them you still get only 210 deaths. Clearly, keeping guns out of people's hands stops people from getting killed with guns.

It's way too easy to get a handgun here in the United States. In countries where normal citizens do not have access to guns as easily as we do in America, you don't hear about these mass murders by crazed lone gunmen. Here in the U.S, any imbecile without proper reasoning capacity, or any mentally or emotionally disturbed person can get a gun as long as he show proper identification and can pay for a weapon. This is a recipe for constant weekly, monthly disaster as we have been seeing of late.

The action of few is causing the loss of freedom of millions. Isolated horror stories such the one from Aurora should be addressed from the root, and not by prohibiting things and removing freedom. It's too easy to do it this way and penalize the rest of the nation...
Bloomberg has been notorious to prohibit things and controlling our lives, to the point of dictating the size of our drinks. That's reactive governance whether than proactive actions such as understanding how we can have people make wise decisions about their diets. It all comes with education and information, not prohibition.
