My very first album was "Thriller." I remember everything about it, including the peculiar fact that the sleeve opened like a book to reveal something like a centerfold. There was Michael, reclining in a white suit with a tiger cub. I listened to that record over and over, following the lyrics in the liner notes. I remember looking up "Ma ma se, ma ma sa, ma ma coo sa" in the dictionary. I still have no clue what that means, but I can sing it in my sleep.
Michael Jackson is dead. One of the world's biggest stars was rushed to a hospital in Los Angeles this afternoon in cardiac arrest. Efforts to revive the 50-year-old singer failed. Details on his death are still developing.
What is your reaction to the death of Michael Jackson? How will you remember the "King of Pop?"
Send us your thoughts using the link above.
Horrified, stunned and saddened.
As a sensitive soul, he sadly lead a troubled personal life shackled by child molestation charges which probably were the manifestations of a troubled and abusive childhood of his own.
It is easy to look at his sins in later years, but seeing the young child singing of the early seventies, it is hard to reconcile the two periods.
For many of us however, his sudden too early passing will be a stone in our life similar to that of John Lennon's.

I am devastated. My children, when they were younger, had the wonderful opportunity to know Michael as a friend. He was always kind and appropriate in his behavior. I am at a loss for words.

I am in shock. This week, especially today, has been very surreal with the loss of Ed McMahon, Farah Fawcett and now Michael Jackson. MJ played such an integral role in my childhood. In fact, he was my first "celebrity" crush when I was 6 years old. I fell in love with music because of him. He was an amazing entertainer. No one can fill his shoes. Despite all of his legal and financial drama, he will be missed.

HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN WEIRD, BUT I CAN'T SAY I BELIEVE THOSE ALLEGATIONS INVOLVING THOSE ACCUSATIONS INVOLVING KIDS. DON'T FORGET, ONE OF THE PLAINTIFFS FROM A CASE HAD A HISTORY OF LEVELING SIMILAR CHARGES ON OTHER INDIVIDUALS PRIOR TO JACKSON.
HE WAS A TALENT FOR SURE. MAY HE REST IN PEACE.

I first received a text message and then my sister called me to tell me and I still couldn't believe it. When my mom called me from Florida and told me I received chills over and over and I guess that's when it hit me, that Micheal Jackson was in fact dead. I'm still in shock!

It is with great sadness when I heard that the King of Pop has passed away. Michael Jackson was a truely gifted and creative man and the most dynamic in the 20th century. His career was tainted with a number of freakish scandals but his music turn on many generations. He had depth of passion and love of music that was unparalleled. When he did the moon walk, I just had to learn how to do it. We lost a great legend and the world morns his passing.

Im so crushed that micheal is no longer here. He was a legend to me and many others.I rember my first stage performance in elementary to ABC`.I truly belive everyone needs a role model to pursue their dreams and he did that for R&B today. Im no singer or dancer but if it wasn't for I don't think would apperticate it as much as do today.
Thankyou micheal we love you
My family and I hearts Go out to you and yours truly...

Apollo Theater 1969, Christmas show. Everyone said "you have to see this group with a "little person" that they're passing off as a kid." There was Michael, on stage flirting with grown women with such ease, like he was a man of the world and the stage was his home. I became a fan right away and took my daughters to his last Madision Square Garden concert when they were in elementary school because they had fallen in love with Michael Jackson. We've recently introduced my grand nephew to Michael and her knows all of the lyrics to all songs and most of the moves to the Thriller dance.
R.I.P. Michael hope you now find the peace you've been seeking.

a very very complex creative journeyman. innovator if you grew up in the world you had to have tried to "moonwalk" i mean people even had their animals and pets trying to learn how to moon walk. you could not be satisfied learning to dance without one michael jackson move or another. you would ask for peer approval "did that look like what he (michael) did?" i did that right? "hey did this look like his step?"
when michael did anything it was earth shaking. WHEN HE GRABBED his CROTCH on stage it was tantamount to a INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT. he has so many milestones and can say at the end he accomplished many many things in his life. SON, BROTHER, FRIEND, FATHER, ENTERTAINER, LEGEND.
the inflections in his singing filled with emotion while singing "she's out of my life" Earlier in his career we kids then careened with the newness and joy when he and his brothers were on American Bandstand on the stage. As the new group on the music scene. mothers wanted him as their son, the cute little singer with the powerful voice and incredible charm. kids wanted to know who he was we fantasized about being his playmate. girls wanted to touch him and have him sing to them.
boys wanted to get his mo-jo.
a troubled life as an artist when the artistic talent chooses you it's really difficult normal people have no idea how talented people truly struggle with inner demons. - you actually contribute to your own persona good or bad you can't help being colorful that is the definition of an artist. MICHAEL was aloof yet we all felt like we knew him intimately -- that is a sign of true talent. how he rarely had any one person who could say they saw who he really was other than Diana Ross or Elizabeth Taylor or a few close associates.
ICON i mean he acted in the movie the WIZ like a natural - he excelled in anything he undertook. i believe that Michael's life was destroyed his personally because of his talent - his public live was so vibrant and controversial it cancelled out his actual personal life. he never had a child hood yet EVERY SINGLE CHILD FOR THREE DECADES knew who he was. alot of people had childhoods because of MICHAEL JACKSON our first love to THE WORDS OF ABC, our first prom or dance to BILLIE JEAN. our first love or first time to BEN OR PRETTY YOUNG THING PYT. he took pop music to the NEXT LEVEL. AND IT never looked back.
his life his phenomenon will be talked about for decades to come. his artistic creativity, his dance moves the streets were clinics for his moves you couldn't be a part of the community if you couldn't do a michael jackson step. he has a few. IF USHER, NEYO, TIMBERLAKE, ALL of those men credit THE GLOVED ONE well. trust he is LEGEND
NEVER FORGET HIS CHILDREN LOST A FATHER TODAY, HIS BROTHERS AND SISTERS LOST A FRIEND HE IS THE SECOND SIBLING TO DIE IN THEIR FAMILY - A FAMILY WITH MANY TRAGEDIES. the JACKSON WERE THE AFRICAN AMERICAN CAMELOT.

i really sad about the death of micheal jackson. When I was a little girl I always love dancing to his songs and i had every CD of his. Thanks to him i started to dance. Micheal Jackson was a great Man he was a good singer and dancer and we was nice and loving to his family and his fans. June 25th will go down as a historic day!!!
I can still remember when I graduated from 5th grade and we sang one of his greatest songs at graduation "Heal the world" and how much love we had for him at that time.
He opened the doors for many minority artists to aim high and be somebody, as he did.
Lets get past his bad times and remember how this man changed the face of music

Wow, what a day we will never forget. Micheal Jackson changed the music industry and many lives to today's pop artists. I'm just 17 years old and a fan of his. It is amazing that his songs influence today's generation. No matter how much he suffered, he never stopped thinking of his fans. His death resembles the dedication of his hard work he put to his music. He will be greatly missed and everyone will remember June 25th. RIP to THE KING OF POP.

My heart goes out to Michael Jackson's family. I'm sure he is in a better place at this time. He was at the top of his game in the 1980's no one will ever match his Thriller video. Unfortunately, he changed and some of it was not for the better. He did unspeakable things at one point in his life. Hopefully now he will rest in peace.

I enjoy Michael Jackson's music and that is what he will be remembered for. My sympathy goes out to his family. Sometimes he really did weird things and I think he did it to keep himself in the limelight, for the attention so people wouldn't forget about him. However, he did some bad things that made me not like him anymore. His death is very shocking news and we lost a true legend.

I just want to say that Michael Jackson was, had been, and will always be The King of Pop. No one can ever take that spot from him. I grew up listening to Michael Jackson and it's really sad that he is not with us anymore. I'm just really shocked that this all happend all of a sudden. I keep wondering that he has gotten cardiac arrest and he is sooo skinny so you never know what can happen. "Tables can turn any minute and God Almighty does everything for the best"

i didn't really grow up with michael but i heard a lot of his music from my mom. it's sad that this happened to him so young he really made history in music. even with his mistakes he will be remebered. nobody's perfect!!!!!
my first reaction was sadness at the waste, I loved his music. my second reaction was anger at his father for warping him and turning him into the self-loathing creature that he was, as exhibited by his plastic surgery and the allegations of sexual molestation.

Michael Jackson has been through so much in his life, and now he can peacefully rest in peace. So many people judged him, and still make jokes about him, even on his death, its so sad how horrible this world has become. I grew up listening to Michael Jackson, and I'm his biggest fan. He will be missed by all and will forever live in our hearts. I'm only 15 and hes my idol, and made me want to work harder for becoming just as great as him one day.

michael jackson is and forever will be a legend! i may only be 23 years old but to me he was always the greatest. when i was 6 years old i took my ice cream money and bought my very first cassette and it was a michael jackson cassette. i have watched the movie of michael growing up on vh1 more times than i can remember! this is truely a dark day in history. i never once ever thought of michael in a bad way! he wrote a song saying he was bad but he was a wonderful person. all this controversy was just greedy people trying to get their 15 minutes in fame! he always pushed and pushed himself so hard to please his fans. HE IS TRUELY THE KING OF POP. all these little boy bands need to pay their respects to the man that paved the way for them! worlds greatest man and the best entertainer!

I am devastated at the announcing of the death of Michael Jackson. I am 47 and when i was a little girl I used to say we were going to be married one day. My mothers maiden name was jackson, so I would also say we would not have to change the monograms on our towels or sheets. My mother would then say that Jackson was her name not mine, we she married an had me my last name was chatham. How diappointed was I but I have loved him all my life anyway. My son who is 24 now used imitate the dance routine Smooth Criminal when he was only 5years old. He will truly truly be missed, there will never be another.
Always and Forever a fan,
Michele C.
I got to see Michael in Hoyt–Schermerhorn Streets (New York City Subway) my old neighborhood when he was making the "BAD" and "The Oz". It's the line for A, C train and GG Line! It was a pleasure to meet him.
I was on the GG line (called then) and the conductor opened the wrong side, everyone went back in the train. When the the doors closed and the train pulled out, I was the only one standing there. The secruity approached me, but MJ said, It's okay. I got see to his production. He is the most affable person you can ever meet!

Mike has been an inspiration to us all. The man was a symbol of a great artist and we do not have that today. When the music nowadays is over-saturated with labels trying to make a quick dollar off of an artist that may be "marketable" it takes away from the artistry. When you evaluate Micheal Jackson's artistic value it is higher than any other performance artist that has come since him. A great performer, singer, and with records that provide entertainment with great concepts and his completely innocent package it will be hard for anyone to ever match that. I myself am an artist, and the man has inspired me to grow past any other artistic norms. And although I am a Hip Hop artist, I still needed him to have the perception of the world I have today. A few months ago I actually made a re-make to his "Billie Jean" record because I thought it was a really creative and fun record.
Its sad that the world didn't get to see what else he had to bring forth with his art. I was really anxious to hear the new album.
However I know that his music will always last and give us a moment of dance, escape, and in the right setting with songs like "Man in the Mirror" something to reflect upon in our own lives and better ourselves.
We will miss you MJ.

With all his $$ and excentricities (& I seem to recall his mention of it) that he would've wanted to be frozen, if he was in fact in a coma, or had an incurable disease-cryogenics . He certainly had the money to be sustained in this state until a cure was found- or probably more importantly to him, that he could come back & live in a time when he wasn't judged so harshly. He also was ecentric enough to want this- having bought the elephant man bones...etc etc
. I do not know the facts of past allegations....but i guess now it is good that he is at the medical examiners, to find out if there was some foul play from his handler's...or if he was controlled-pushed past the brink of what he could physically handle, with his hopes (in their promises) of a comback...to respect & artistic gratification...but the shady dealers who were just in it for the fortune from his tour & contracts signed for all that goes along with that promised to bring, may have very well done him in unintentionally. -or others whi have some claim to his estate.
If medical folk could've caught him in time...he could've been frozen. I think they missed the opportunity, and there was no one to speak this desire for him

I was shocked and extremely saddened by the news of Michael Jackson’s death. He left us too soon. I sympathize with his family. He was so young and had so much more success ahead. Michael Jackson is such a name to remember.Tabloids have said things to turn fans away from him,but when you really think about,he was an average person like all us New Yorkers.I remember when I was younger,my father would play every Michael Jackson song and I would either dance or sing to it.Michael Jackson was a performer that made fans jump for him.He is also a performer who had the ability to put life into a crowd. His voice is remarkable to my ears, his talent in no compeition with any other artist in the world. He has also taught me a lesson that will live with me till the day I pass.Dont blame it on the Sunshine,Dont blame it on the Moonlight,Dont blame it on the good times,Blame it on the Boogie.I am a very big fan of Michael Jackson, and I am only 14 years old.I will miss him dreadfully, and his moonwalk and songs of equality will live in my heart forever.Michael Jackson brought a smile to my face with every sight,he will also do so even when hes gone.

This is a devastating day..
MJ Gone too soon.
I grew up with him, sang Jackson 5 songs on the bus to camp as an adolescent....was blown away by Thriller..the first true music video with a story..and choreography .. Billie Jean..dancing on the lighted tiles.. the lean in Smooth Criminal (mirrors or not).. swayed on the Dance floor to I wanna Rock With You .. Marveled at Remembered the time..
Like many of my generation I was saddened by the man he had become... The nose surgery.. the allegations of skin lightening/whitenning.., the fixation with children...the Peter Pan thing...
But as you reflect, he never had a childhood..he was that family's money maker and they locked him up..Joe ruined that child... But that, he was the King of Pop
But through it all, Michael was Michael.. And I will miss him..

I was at work today when I began receiving all the text saying he had passed. I was upset at first because I felt it was a cruel joke. But after the texts continued tp come in I realized it was true and I was just in a state of shock and denial. As a HUGE fan of music and an even bigger fan of Michael Jackson I was hurt... My favorite songs have always been "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin" and P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) he will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
My condolences go out to the Jackson Family.

Michael's J. Sudden death was truely a shock to me. I am 19 years old and is still growing up to MJ. I'm sure that there is not 1 person on the face of this earth that doesn't know who michael jackson is. Everybody has a piece of michael witthin them. His death has touched Chris Brown, Beyonce, Ciara, Usher, and myself because I myslef is an entertainer, and dancer. Millions of people done tried to moonwalk their way across a stage like michael, spin like michael, and stand on their own 2 tipied toes...like michael. Michael will for surely be missed and known as the gloved one. Known as that man in the mirror, and now he has moonwalked his way upabove.

I closed out before your e-mail yesterday. He was a genius and as for myself I have been through many era's of music and I put him in the category of only four people that can command an audience. and that is Frank, Judy, Ellvis and Michael. What they should do is show the TV special of the 25th anniversary of Motown and if I remember correctly that is where he first did the moon walk, unbelievable. The show was a smash., he outdid everyone.
God Bless Him
