A child was rushed to the hospital Friday morning after getting their hand stuck in an escalator at a Manhattan bookstore.

It happened at the Barnes and Noble on 82nd and Broadway.

An eyewitness says a little girl, about two to three years old, got her hand caught and immediately sent customers rushing for help.

"Everybody was like gathering around and just everyone was just screaming," said one witness.

"We heard the little girl scream. It was kind of scary, we didn't know what was wrong. Then we looked out the window and all of the fire trucks and police cars were here," said another witness.

The escalator was shut down.

Fire officials say the child was taken to St. Luke's Hospital.

There's no word on how badly she was hurt.
