Cardinal Timothy Dolan is again weighing in on the selection of the next Pope, saying it's possible he will not be from Europe.
During his weekly radio show, Dolan said the election of Pope John Paul II - the first pope in centuries to be selected from outside Italy - opened the church to a new realm of possibilities.
"The Pope is the earthly, universal pastor of the church. To think that there might be a pope from North America, to think that there might be a pope from Latin America, a Pope from Asia, a Pope from Africa, I think that’s highly possible, don’t you?" Dolan said.
Dolan said he's nervous, but excited about his first participation in the election process.
The church is weighing the possibility of starting the conclave early.
Church rules say it has to be 15 to 20 days after the Pope steps down.
Pope Benedict XVI's resignation takes effect February 28.
