Staten Island Ferris Wheel Still A Go, Developers Say

Despite the ongoing recovery from Sandy, plans to build the world's largest Ferris wheel on Staten Island are moving forward.
Flooding from the storm means there likely will be some changes to the $500 million project. But developers say they are not planning to scale back the development.
The project, which includes an outlet center and hotel along with the 625-foot wheel, is expected to be built near the St. George Ferry Terminal, away from the hardest hit areas.
Changes could include building the ground floors of the hotel, outlet center, and wheel terminal building higher along with using materials to withstand flooding.
While some residents are raising questions over whether the project makes sense in the wake of the storm, the developer says it will be a "one-of-a-kind" boom for Staten Island.
Developers hope to have it moving by the end of 2015.
