Two DOE Employees Plead Not Guilty To Separate Sex Crimes With Children

Two Department of Education employees pleaded not guilty Wednesday to separate sex crimes involving children.
Paraprofessional Gregory Atkins, 56, seen above left, was arraigned in Manhattan Supreme Court on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual abuse, attempting a criminal sex act and child endangerment.
Atkins worked at P.S. 87 on the Upper West Side when he was arrested in February.
Authorities say Atkins molested an eight-year-old boy several times.
DOE officials say Atkins was also suspended from another school in 2006 after they say he bought gifts for a male student and invited him to his home.
No charges were ever filed in the prior case.
Atkins is due back in court on April 25.
Meanwhile, Taleek Brooks, a Brooklyn teacher's aide, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to child molestation and pornography charges.
Brooks, 41, seen above right, was arraigned and remains in custody.
He faces dozens of counts of sexual exploitation of a child, and possessing and distributing explicit videos.
Brooks worked at P.S. 243 in Crown Heights since 1995.
FBI agents arrested him in January after allegedly uncovering the videos on his computer.
Authorities also seized cellphones, digital cameras and other computer equipment.
Brooks is due back in court April 12.
