Two people affiliated with his campaign may be implicated in a growing fundraising scandal, but Comptroller John Liu definitely isn't avoiding the media.

"There have been allegations made against my supporters, against my campaign staff, and probably by extension to me," Liu said in Chinatown. "None of these allegations have been proven. We're moving forward."

After a ceremony at the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, the comptroller tried to walk it off by traveling by foot from Chinatown to his office by City Hall – with the media in tow.

While the scandal has shaken the comptroller's political future, he doesn't necessarily dislike the attention.

"It's a tremendous privilege to serve and also be in the public eye, whether it's good or bad," he said.

Liu's treasurer, Jenny Hou, was arrested on Tuesday and is accused of funneling over-the-limit campaign donations to the comptroller through straw donors. The campaign has retained an attorney for her.

"I spoke with Jenny, very briefly, Tuesday night," Liu said when asked if he had spoken with her.

Liu wouldn't talk about others named in the complaint by the U.S. Attorney's office, some of whose records have been subpoenaed.

Jeffrey Wu hosted a Liu fundraiser in May at a Flushing restaurant, and prosecutors claim straw donors were used at the event.

The complaint also mentions other co-conspirators. When asked if he was concerned that more staff members would be implicated, Liu said, "I was stunned by the news of Jenny. As of this point, there are probably few things that will stun me again."
