Jury deliberations are underway in the trial of the man whose son admitted to plotting a bomb attack on the city's subway system.
Prosecutors have argued Mohammed Wali Zazi hid evidence and lied to investigators about the failed terrorist plot of his son, Najibullah.
The father faces two charges of obstructing justice and one charge of conspiracy.
Zazi's nephew took the stand earlier this week as a government witness, saying his uncle told him to "take care of the chemicals" after learning the FBI was onto the plot.
Defense lawyers for the elder Zazi say his imperfect grasp of English caused "miscommunications" with his relatives and with prosecutors.
Najibullah Zazi pleaded guilty last year to supporting al-Qaeda and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction.
