The father of an Afghan immigrant accused of plotting a terror attack in the city was arraigned Friday, one day after he was formally charged with lying to federal investigators.

Mohammed Zazi, 53, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Denver Thursday for making a false statement in a terror investigation.

He was rearraigned today on those charges and released on a $50,000 unsecured bond.

Authorities say Zazi lied about to talking to someone on the phone about whether his son, Najibullah, was in any trouble.

If convicted, Zazi faces up to eight years in federal court and a $250,000 fine.

Najibullah Zazi is being held without bond in New York. He pleaded not guilty to a charge of conspiring to detonate explosives in the U.S.

Another man also faces charges in connection with the alleged plot.

Imam Ahmad Afzali of Queens is accused of tipping off the Zazis and lying to law enforcement.
