Giants running back David Wilson's brief NFL career is over.

Doctors met with Wilson Monday and advised him to "no longer play football."

They say he's suffering from narrowing of the spinal cord, which can cause severe pain and numbness to the hands and lower extremities.

A first-round pick in the 2012 draft, Wilson only played five games in 2013 before going down with a serious neck injury.

The Virginia Tech star underwent spinal fusion surgery in January and was only cleared to play last month, but he was hurt again during practice.

Wilson released a statement asking fans not to feel sorry for him, adding, "A lot of people only get to dream their dream. I lived that dream. Now I have a chance to dream another dream and live that, too." ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
