Former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre officially joins baseball's best in Cooperstown.

He was inducted into the Hall of Fame on Sunday.

During his run in the Bronx from 1996 to 2007, Torre led the Yankees to four World Series titles and six pennants.

He also played for the Mets, and managed them in the 1970s.

In his speech Torre reflected on his time in baseball and looked ahead to the future of the game.

"If all of us who love baseball are doing our jobs then those who get the game from us will be as proud to be a part of it as we were and we are. This game is a gift and I am very humbled to accept its greatest honor," Torre said.

Torre later apologized for forgetting to thank the late Yankees owner George Steinbrenner and the Steinbrenner family in his speech, and said his run with the Bombers was the proudest time in his career.

The Brooklyn native will have his number 6 retired by the Yankees on August 23. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
