Yankees starting pitcher CC Sabathia will undergo season-ending knee surgery next week, and it could get worse.
The 33-year-old will have arthroscopic surgery.
The former Cy Young winner went on the disabled list in May.
The team was hoping to have Sabathia back this season but is now hoping to have him back for spring training.
If that does not work, the six-time All-Star may need microfracture surgery, which could end his career.
He's one of four Yankee starters currently on the disabled list and the second one to have season-ending surgery.
Sabathia struggled this year with a 3-4 record and an ERA of 5.28.
