The city's new Major League Soccer team will call Yankee Stadium home in its inaugural season.

The New York City Football Club announced it will kick off in the Bronx in March 2015.

The team is owned by the group that runs the English soccer club Manchester City.

The Yankees also hold a minority stake.

Yankees great Mariano Rivera said he is the first season ticket holder.

"I always said that soccer was my, and is still, my number one game," Rivera said. "Baseball just got in between."

"Our plans all along were to be in a first home while we pursued a deal to do a soccer-specific stadium in the five boroughs, and we are continuing to do that," said Tim Pernetti, chief business officer of NYC FC. "We're conducting the same thorough search, looking at sights and developing that plan."

Team officials said the club will play 17 homes games between March and November next year.

They said tickets can be reserved at nycfc.com.
