The Brooklyn Nets topped the defending champion Miami Heat in their home opener Friday night, and fans in attendance said that the win was a great start to the season. NY1's Jeanine Ramirez filed the following report.

The Nets' new drumline greeted fans in the Barclays Center plaza Friday night for the team's home opener. The energy then spilled inside as the Nets took on the defending champions, the Miami Heat.

The Nets got to showcase their all-star talent for the Brooklyn crowd, which included Chris Rock and Magic Johnson. It was a nail-biter, and it all clicked.

All stars Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry were acquired in the offseason in a blockbuster trade.

Last year's inaugural season fell short as Brooklyn was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, but fans say this team has has the potential to take it all.

"Paul Pierce, great. Kevin Garnett, great. Deron Williams, great," said one fan.

"I think we're going to win the championship this year," said another.

Nets CEO Brett Yormark said that there's a commitment to build a championship team.

"Mikhail Prokhorov came on board, obviously, a couple of years ago as our owner, and he wants to win, and he wants to win big," Yormark said.

Fans at the Barclays Center Friday said they were glad to help kick off what they hope will be a title-winning season.

"I've been a lifetime Nets fan since back when Julius Irving rode the court," said one fan. "This is big to me. Brooklyn's huge."

"My wife give me a call. I'm at work. She says, 'Honey, do you want some tickets to the home opener in Brooklyn? I said, 'Of course I do. I'm Brooklyn all day,'" said another. "So I made this shirt. Brooklyn versus everybody."

It will be Brooklyn versus Orlando next, as the team travels south for a game on Sunday.
