Mets pitcher Matt Harvey is expected to miss all of next season after announcing Friday he is opting to have elbow surgery.

The right-hander tried to let the partial tear in his elbow heal on its own but the effort failed.

Harvey went 9-5 last season with a 2.27 ERA.

Recovery time for the so-called 'Tommy John Surgery' can be as long as a year.
