Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig announced Thursday he is retiring, effective in January 2015.
He says while an end is near, he looks forward to addressing several significant issues during the remainder of his term.
Selig says he is planning a transition plan for his retirement, that will reorganize Major League Baseball management.
He has led Major League Baseball since September 1992 when he was named interim commissioner.
Selig was later voted in as permanent commissioner in 1998.
