The plans to turn the Kingsbridge Armory into the world's largest ice sports venue will be voted on by a Bronx community board Monday.

The center would contain nine indoor rinks, a performance center and off-ice fitness facilities.

Developers say it would bring in an estimated $1.7 billion dollars in benefits to the community and create jobs.

Former Rangers great Mark Messier was named CEO of the project last week.

Messier says he hopes the center will encourage children to skate.

"The kids are the inspiration for me, and I think when you talk about ice sports, I think you'll find that when there's the access to it, you'll find a lot more interest. It's gonna be up to us to promote trial," Messier said.

"I'm optimistic about the outcome tomorrow. I think you'd be very, very hard pressed to put a no-vote on this project," said Kingsbridge National Ice Center Partners Founder Kevin Parker.

Developers say they hope the rink will be ready for the Armory's centennial in 2017. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
