Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd will have his number 5 retired by the team prior to their pre-season game against the Miami Heat on October 17.
As a player, Kidd led the then New Jersey Nets to their only two appearances in the National Basketball Association finals during his six and a half years with the team.
He is the team's all-time leader in assists, steals and three point field goals and is fourth in points and rebounds.
The 10-time all-star will be the sixth player in franchise history to have his number raised to the rafters.
The 40-year-old retired in June, after playing his final NBA season with the New York Knicks.
He was named Nets coach later that month.
