While Alex Rodriguez vows to fight his suspension following steroid allegations, a key figure in past doping scandals comes into play.

According to the Daily News, former steroid kingpin Victor Conte says Rodriguez showed up at his doorstep unannounced, seeking advice in May of last year.

Conte served four months in prison after his drug company, BALCO, was at the center of a steroid conspiracy involving Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi and other athletes.

While Conte maintains that Rodriguez never asked him for any illicit performance enhancers, the Yankee slugger attempted to keep his contact with him a secret.

Conte also reports that NFL linebacker and admitted former steroid user Bill Romanowski contacted him on Rodriguez's behalf.

The three-time MVP has filed an appeal to the 211-game suspension he faces from Major League Baseball. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
