The National Hockey League on Thursday officially announced Yankee Stadium will play host to two outdoor match-ups this winter.

The Rangers and Devils will take to the field, or ice, on Sunday, January 26.

They will then face off against the Islanders on the 29th.

Officials say it's all about bring something new to the fans.

"The Stadium Series is designed more teams, more markets, and most important, more fans, the opportunity to connect with the excitement of the National Hockey League and to do it with an outdoor game experience. In effect, it takes the game back to its roots where so many of our players first learned to skate and play the game," said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.

The games will kick off the NHL's "Stadium Series," in which a total of four games will be played outdoors.

Since 2008, the league has featured its Winter Classic, which is played outdoors, usually after New Year's Day.
