As expected, Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is appealing his massive suspension.

He officially challenged the punishment Wednesday, thereby putting it on hold.

Major League Baseball officials announced a 211-game suspension for Rodriguez on Monday.

He is one of 13 players disciplined following an investigation into a company that was accused of distributing performance enhancing drugs.

The other players were suspended for 50 games, and none of them are appealing.

The players' union is calling Rodriguez's punishment "way out of line."

An arbitrator isn't expected to rule until November or December at the earliest.

In the meantime, Rodriguez can continue playing.

He made his season debut on Monday in Chicago after battling injuries all season.
