All eyes were on Citi Field Tuesday evening as the Mets' stadium hosted the 2013 All-Star Game.

The American League pitchers held the National League to just three hits and won the game 3-0.

Yankees closer Mariano Rivera was named the game's most valuable player in his 13th and final All-Star appearance, as he plans to retire at the end of the season. He pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.

National League manager Bruce Bochy tapped Mets phenom Matt Harvey to start the game. Harvey pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out three. He joined Dwight Gooden and Tom Seaver as the only Mets pitchers to start an All-Star Game.

The game provided a scary moment for Yankees fans, as Harvey hit Robinson Cano in the leg with a pitch in the first inning.

Cano initially remained in the game after being hit but left the game after the next batter, the Tigers' Miguel Cabrera, struck out. He suffered a bruised right quadriceps but said he should be ready for the Yankees' next game on Friday.

Detroit's Max Scherzer started for the American League and pitched a scoreless inning.

David Wright was the only other Met to play in the game, starting at third base and hitting fourth in the National League lineup. He got one hit in three at-bats before exiting after the seventh inning.

Tuesday was the first time Citi Field hosted the mid-summer classic.

It was also the first time the Mets hosted the game since 1964, the year Shea Stadium opened.

The last time the All-Star Game was played in New York before Tuesday was in 2008 at the old Yankee Stadium.
