Baseball fans headed to Citi Field Sunday as former and future baseball greats took to the field. NY1's Ruschell Boone filed the following report.

Mets fans are used to cheering on their team at Citi Field, but there was another chant around the ballpark as thousands baseball fans descended on the stadium for some All-Star fun.

On the Shea Bridge is where many of the die-hard Mets fans watched the All-Star futures game and the legends and celebrity game. It's been a roller coaster year for their team but the All-Star celebration is a highlight.

"This is. It's like a good sign of things to come," said one Mets fan.

"We always feel the Mets don't get a chance so we're happy to be here at Citi Field and we're having a great time," said another Mets fan.

Another great sign, for the event at least, is all the fans who came to New York from all over the country to enjoy the city and the fanfare.

"The east coast is treating us well," said one visitor.

"It's fantastic. It's a great experience for all whether you're a Mets fan or not," said another visitor.

"I'm happy how everyone has been welcoming, everybody has been welcoming and helpful and assisting. Especially with the subway. New Yorkers are great," said a third visitor.

Even Yankees fans who don't like coming to Citi Field were having a good time.

"I picked up a nice Mariano Rivera All-Star shirt," noted one Yankees fan.

And the fun isn't over, as there are still a lot of activities leading up to Tuesday's All-Star game.
