The NBA's first active openly gay player might be calling Brooklyn home next season.

Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Nets are targeting free agent Jason Collins.

Collins was originally drafted by the Nets in 2001, when the team played in New Jersey. While with the Nets, he was a teammate of Jason Kidd, Brooklyn's new head coach, and was coached for part of the time by Lawrence Frank, who the Nets hired as an assistant coach Friday.

If the 34-year-old is signed, he'll likely be used off the bench to support the Nets' new star players Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, who are reportedly headed to Brooklyn in a mega-deal.

The 34-year-old center played with Pierce and Garnett on the Celtics last year.

Collins announced he was gay in April. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
