The New York Giants on Wednesday announced the death of their longtime punter and sports broadcaster Dave Jennings at age 61.

Jennings had suffered from Parkinson's disease since 1996.

He played for the Giants from 1974 until 1984, making the Pro Bowl four times, and still holds the team career record for punts and yardage.

Jennings also punted for the Jets from 1985 until 1987.

After leaving the field he did radio analysis for the Jets from 1988 until 2001, then joined the Giants broadcast from 2002 until 2006.

In a statement, Giants President John Mara says Jennings "was one of the all-time great Giants."

Team chairman Steve Tisch adds, "Jennings lived his life with class and dignity."

One of his former teammates, Hall of Fame linebacker Harry Carson, noted, "Dave was a guy that everyone not only liked, but loved."

Jennings was born in New York and attended Garden City High School on Long Island.
