Faced with a do-or-die Game 6 in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, the New York Rangers found a way to stay alive.
Henrik Lundqvist made 27 saves and Derek Brassard gave the Rangers the only goal they would need as the Blue Shirts defeated the Washington Capitals 1-0 Sunday at Madison Square Garden to force a decisive Game 7.
Brassard scored midway through the second period when his slap shot from just inside the blue line glanced off Capitals defenseman Steve Oleksy and into the net.
Lundqvist earned his seventh career playoff shutout, turning aside 12 shots in the third period alone as the Capitals pushed for the equalizer.
Game 7 is Monday night in Washington, with the winner advancing to the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
