The New York Knicks failed to clinch a first-round series victory for a second straight game Wednesday night, falling 92-86 to the Boston Celtics at Madison Square Garden in Game 5 of their first-round series.
The loss cut the Knicks' lead in the best-of-seven series to 3 games to 2.
The Knicks started Game 5 on an 11-0 run, but they were outscored 45-28 over the rest of the half and trailed by six at halftime.
They trailed by as many as 15 in the fourth quarter.
The Knicks shot just 39.5 percent from the field as a team for the game. Carmelo Anthony led all scorers with 22 points, but he was just 8-for-24 from the field. Raymond Felton contributed 21 points for New York.
J.R. Smith, who returned after being suspended for Game 4, missed his first 10 shots and finished with 14 points on 3-for-14 shooting.
Five Celtics finished the game in double figures, led by Jeff Green with 18 points. Kevin Garnett contributed 16 points and 18 rebounds for Boston.
The Knicks will now head back to Boston to try again to clinch the series. Game 6 will tip off Friday night at 7 p.m.
