The New York Rangers are going to the playoffs, and Ryan Callahan put them there.
The Rangers captain scored a dramatic overtime goal to lift the Blue Shirts to a 4-3 win over host Carolina, clinching a playoff spot in the next-to-last game of the regular season.
Down 3-2 with time running out, New York scored with only 2:57 left in regulation when Brad Richards' slap shot ended up in the net courtesy of a flukey bounce. Callahan then scored the overtime winner on wrist shot as he raced down the left wing.
Derek Stepan and Derick Brassard also scored for the Rangers and Henrik Lundqvist had 18 saves.
This will be the Rangers' third straight trip to the post-season, and their seventh in the past eight seasons.
Their regular season will conclude on Saturday against the New Jersey Devils.
