A strong third quarter from the New York Knicks helped vault them to a 87-71 victory over the Boston Celtics in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.
The Knicks outscored the Celtics 32-11 in the third quarter after trailing by six at halftime.
For the second straight game, Carmelo Anthony led all scorers. He had 34 points in Game 2 on 11 for 24 shooting from the field.
Raymond Felton contributed 16 points and 7 rebounds for the Knicks, while newly crowned Sixth Man of the Year Award winner J.R. Smith scored 19 off the bench.
Kenyon Martin contributed 11 rebounds off the bench for New York.
Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 18 points, while Kevin Garnett had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Boston, who scored just 23 points as a team in the second half.
The series will now shift to Boston, with Game 3 tipping off at the TD Garden Friday night at 8 p.m.
