The New York Rangers traded forward Marian Gaborik to the Columbus Blue Jackets Wednesday, just ahead of the NHL's 3 p.m. trade deadline.

In exchange, the Blue Jackets sent center Derick Brassard, defenseman John Moore and forward Derek Dorsett to the Rangers.

Dorsett is currently out with a broken collarbone.

Gaborik came to the Rangers before the 2010-2011 season.

He scored more than 40 goals twice during his time with the Minnesota Wild.

He had 22 goals in his first season with the Rangers and had 41 last year, but struggled this season, with just nine goals in 35 games during this shortened season.

As a team, the Rangers rank last in the league in goals for. They have scored just 82 goals this season.

The trade is the second significant trade between the Rangers and Blue Jackets in recent months. Columbus sent forward Rick Nash to the Rangers last July in exchange for forward Brandon Dubinsky, forward Artem Anisimov, defenseman Tim Erixon and a first-round draft pick.

The Rangers are currently two points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
