Mets officials put the finishing touches on Citi Field for Monday's season opener, as players took to the field Sunday for a final pre-season workout.
Captain David Wright said while Mets fans may not see many big name players on this season's team, they can look forward to watching players who will fight for every win.
"Who cares who gets the big hit? Who cares how many hits you get? Bottom line is wins," said Wright. "And I think we have a group of guys that have bought into that and those are their personalities, the guys that are gritty, scrappy."
Former Mets slugger Rusty Staub will throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Monday, and the team will pay tribute to first responders who rushed to the aid of Sandy victims.
