As the baseball season fast approaches, Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman has revealed that the injury-riddled team captain Derek Jeter is starting the season on the disabled list, due to soreness in his healing ankle.
Cashman said the 38-year-old shortstop was sore after being the designated hitter in a minor league game on Saturday.
Jeter broke his ankle last October in the first game of the American League Championship Series.
If Jeter does start the season on the DL, he would not be eligible to be reactivated until April 6.
The Yankees open up the season hosting the Boston Red Sox on April 1.
