David Wright may not be in the Mets' lineup on Opening Day.
The third baseman had to withdraw from the World Baseball Classic due to a strain on the left side of his rib cage.
He returned to New York to be examined and will rest for three to five days.
Wright was leading the tournament with 10 RBIs in just four games.
Without Wright, the Americans lost to Puerto Rico 4-3 Friday night and was eliminated.
The U.S. lost both games they played without Wright.
Puerto Rico advances to the semifinals.
