PORT ST. LUCIE, FLA. - The Mets had to battle rain during their Thursday Spring Training session in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Some Mets players slipped and slid around as they walked around the team's spring training grounds during their session.

Several players made it out on the field, including pitcher Johan Santana, who stopped his workout once the rain started.

Others, including pitcher Matt Harvey, worked off a mound underneath a roof on the complex.

Manager Terry Collins said he kept a watchful eye on his players during the rain to make sure they stayed safe.

"We’ve just got to do a better job of making sure we prepare, get our guys ready, make them execute a little bit better, and let them go play," Collins said. "We've still got some very, very talented guys here, and we've just got to make sure we stay healthy and put them in the right spots."

"The pitchers, it's going to take a little while for them to get out into their routines, so this rain kind of prohibits that," said Mets third baseman David Wright. "But it's something you make an adjustment. It might be a little longer day with having to throw inside and do everything inside, but we'll get our work done regardless."

"In baseball, you're going to have rain days," said Mets catcher John Buck. "It's just like the season. We're going to have days like this during the season, so we can't let it be more than what it was."

Rain is expected to fall in Port St. Lucie until Friday morning. With that in mind, Collins pushed back the start of Friday's workout to noon from 9 a.m.
