Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez undergoes hip surgery that is expected to sideline him until mid-season.
Rodriguez's doctor says the torn cartilage on his hip contributed to the 37-year-old's poor performance in the last two months of the season.
He batted just .120 with no RBIs in the playoffs, going 0 for 18 with 12 strikeouts against right-handed pitchers.
The doctor said last week the injury is caused by genetics and not steroids.
Rodriguez is expected to be released from the hospital Thursday.
