Former boxing champion Hector "Macho" Camacho was laid to rest in the Bronx Saturday, surrounded by family, friends and hundreds of fans.

The 50-year-old was buried at St. Raymond's Cemetery in Throgs Neck.

Camacho's mother wept uncontrollably as her son's casket was lowered into the ground and several white doves were released into the sky.

Earlier, more than 300 people attended a memorial service for the boxer at the East Harlem church he attended as a boy.

"I believe that he had a tough life growing up," said one person at the funeral. "Harlem was tough, and I believe that it helped him season up and be a better fighter in the ring and being that he was talented. He was multi-talented. I believe he's one of the most talented fighters in the last 20 years."

Camacho died one week ago after being shot in Puerto Rico.

Police have not made any arrests.
