A doctor declared Camacho clinically brain dead Thursday.

The 50-year-old was shot in the face Tuesday night as he and a friend sat in a car outside a bar in the boxer's hometown of Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

His friend was killed.

Police say they found small bags of cocaine in the friend's pocket and an open bag in the car.

Camacho is remembered fondly at Gleason's Gym in Brooklyn, where the fighter trained for many of his bouts.

"In the gym, he was always a gentleman, always a good person," said Bruce Silverglade, the owner of Gleason's Gym. "Loved the sport and loved everybody that was in the gym practicing the sport he liked best."

"Camacho is a happy guy," said a person at Gleason's Gym. "All the time, he is happy. Tried to keep people happy and tried to be very friendly, very social."

Camacho, who was raised in Manhattan and worked his way up through the New York boxing circuit, held world titles in multiple weight classes in the 1980s and '90s.

No arrests have been made.
