Joe Girardi said Thursday that he was focused on preparing the Yankees for Thursday's Game 4 of the American League Division Series despite the death of his father.

Jerry Girardi passed away on Saturday after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 81.

The Yankees held a moment of silence before Game 4 to honor their manager's father.

The Yankees manager talked Thursday about his decision to keep his father's death a secret and continue managing the team.

"The one thing that the both of them, besides many other things that they taught me, was always to finish the job at hand," Girardi said. "So my thought process was my dad would want me to do everything that we could do to go win a World Series."

Funeral services will be held Monday in Girardi's hometown of East Peoria, Illinois.
