It took them until the final day of the regular season but the Yankees are the American League East Division champions.

The Bombers clinched the title Wednesday night with a 14-2 blowout win over the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium.

Curtis Granderson gave New York the lead with a three-run homer in the second inning, his first of two home runs in the game.

Robinson Cano also had a big game, blasting two homers and knocking in six runs.

The win also clinched the top seed in the playoffs for the Yanks.

It's their 13th division title in the last 17 years.

"Every year is different," said Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter. "I don't try to compare the years. But yeah, this, most definitely, this was difficult. We come in to the last day of the season, nobody knows what's going on. We've been taking it one day at a time for quite some time. It feels good to win."

The Yankees will open the playoffs on the road Sunday against the winner of the wild card game between the Orioles and Rangers.

That game will be Friday in Texas.
