The star of the Long Island University basketball team and three other players are suspended after they were arrested on assault charges.
Forward Julian Boyd is among the players suspended indefinitely after police say the men were involved in a brawl at a school event.
Boyd was named the Northeast Conference player of the year last year, leading the team to its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
The fight broke out during a welcome back party for students at the Brooklyn campus last weekend.
Jamal Olaswere, Troy Joseph and C.J. Garner were also arrested.
Police say the four players were arguing with members of the school's track team.
They say the basketball players then got into a fight with the DJ and some other party-goers.
No one was seriously injured but some were taken to a hospital.
The school's athletic department confirmed the suspensions but is not commenting further on the incident.
