Opening statements went underway in the Roger Clemens perjury retrial on Monday, with the government painting the legendary baseball player as a serial liar.
The prosecution called Clemens a "great baseball player" who used "lies to cover up lies" about his alleged use of steroids and human growth hormone.
Statements began after the court seated a jury.
Seven of the twelve jurors admitted they had never heard of Clemens and are not baseball fans.
Clemens' first trial ended in a mistrial last summer after only two days of testimony because of inadmissible evidence.
The former Yankee is accused of lying to Congress in 2008 when he said he never used steroids.
If convicted on all charges, the seven-time Cy Young winner would likely face nearly two years in prison.
